On The Runway: Diesel Black Gold Fall/Winter 2008

Diesel unveiled it's much-anticipated higher-end Black Gold collection to much fanfare yesterday on the runways in Bryant Park.

In a pared down presentation, the collection, designed under the creative direction of Wilbert Das, was displayed on a stormy gray runway with real photographers on one end and a wall of fake paparazzi—complete with flashing strobe lights to mimic the flashbulbs—on the other.

Overall, the collection was a love letter to the 80s with a Mad Max twist, and included soft lines, voluminous silhouettes, tons of layering, awesome subtle detailing, neutral colors, oversize shirts and coats, and denim-on-denim looks. Most obvious in the mens looks were the elongated silhouettes of long, untucked shirts and knitwear (cardigans and plunging v-neck sweaters). It was a mature collection in the way that it that it focused on subtle details, hidden hardware and a reserved color palette.

Diesel Black Gold is a fantastic collection that truly captured Diesel's subversive and irreverent style for a higher-end customer that appreciates edgier, fashion-forward looks but doesn't necessarily want to dress a young 20-something.

The inspiration looks more like a bag lady wearing everything she owns ...Who wants to be bothered with all those pieces and layers ? I doubt that the person who would like this look could afford it.

I love diesel. And i try very hard to look like that. When you know you look amazing, try to look like shit! Its hard!! I cant wait to get my hands all over that Black Gold.
