June 12, 2009Quickies: British GQ Slams Beth Ditto, Karl Lagerfeld Slams The Klum's, Joseph Abboud Gets His Name back, +British GQ editor Alex Blimes thinks Beth Ditto is hardly more than a fat lesbian, unworthy of all the attention she's getting in the fashion world. [The Cut] In Karl Lagerfeld news, he had this to say about Heidi Klum and Seal: "I am no dermatologist but I wouldn't want his skin. Mine looks better than his. He is covered in craters." Ouch. But, his teddy bear is now available for just $1,000! You can bet Seal won't be purchasing. [Sun UK] and [Racked] Joseph Abboud got his name back. After settling a two year old legal battle, the designer can now use his name in association with his menswear line, Jaz. [WWD] How exactly do you pronounce Thierry Mugler and other foreign designer names? The Moment gives you tools so you don't look like a fashion fool. [The Moment] Scarlett Johansson may be the face of Mango's women's line, but for their menswear campaign they chose Max Irons. That would be the son of British actor Jeremy. [WWD] This little sit down at Il Cantinori with Anna Sui and Marc Jacobs is too cute. Breath -- bated! [Fashionologie] The dust has settled at Interview, and it appears that Fabien Baron is back at the helm as editorial director. [Fashionologie] Gareth Pugh, along with, like, everyone else, won't show at Paris men's fashion week. [The Cut] So...Hermés breeds their own crocodiles for their bags. Nothing makes a statement purse like a little added morbidity. [The Cut] In Kanye West news: he shops at American Apparel with Amber Rose -- where they buy the same thing -- and blew off being Agyness Deyn's date for the Glamour fashion awards. Such a gentleman. [American Apparel] and [The Mirror UK] Lady GaGa's stylist speaks! [Anthem]

And even crazier than the Kaiser bowing out is who's set to replace him: Lanvin's own Alber Elbaz! So what happens to the beloved French label with the absence of Elbaz? Well, according to the last leg of this rumor, Olivier Theyskens, formerly of Nina Ricci, will take over at Lanvin. Mind-blowing? Yes. Though, of course, none of it has been entirely substantiated. Chances are that by the end of the day the dust will settle and answers will emerge. UPDATE: Unable to contain themselves, The Cut went to straight to Chanel and Lanvin to question the validity of this meaty rumor, and when asked if Karl was in fact leaving with Elbaz as his successor, they were, not surprisingly met with a resounding "NO!" [Vulture] Michael Bastian, a now favored menswear designer, can't afford his own $540 shorts. [NYT] Karl Lagerfeld will lend his voice to a cartoon villain, Fabu, in the french animated movie, Totally Spies. [Hollywood Reporter] Kris Van Assche played art director for the newly launched, Londerzeel magazine. [WWD] Gay men love underwear. But not these. [lemondrop]

New Faces at Next Month's Men's Shows, Karl Lagerfeld Hates Swans, +Rumors are again afloat that Martin Margiela is leaving or has already left his Maison. Eventually, Mr. Margiela, publicity stunts just turn annoyances. [JC Report] Next month's men's shows in Paris and Milan should be a bit more energetic than last season's dreary showing. A slew of new and old favorite designers will show and present collections, which will hopefully amp up both weeks. [WWD] via [The Cut] Dolce & Gabbana won't ever do a diffusion line. When asked about the possibility of working with H&M Stefano Gabbana responded "No, we don’t need to. That kind of exposure could be dangerous for us." [Telegraph UK] Fashion types apparently love NYC's park-in-the-sky, The High Line. Calvin Klein is throwing a pary there this summer. Layman's would also probably love it if a) invited to CK's party or b) if they would open it to the public already. [WWD] Karl Lagerfeld DOES NOT like swans. [The Cut] Swine Flu strikes Vogue offices. That is so last month. [Gawker] Jesus Luiz. Shirtless. In a bathing suit. [Socialite Life] A Vivienne Westwood penknife and a Natalia Brilli leather skateboard. Recession? The ceremony will likely take place in June in Provincetown, MA and the party not until December in St. Barts. [Cityfile] Contrary to speculation, Jesus Luz will not appear alongside Madonna in her new Louis Vuitton ad. But, he is their friend... [The Cut]
What's with Karl Lagerfeld and his obsession with quirky female artists? First Beth Ditto and now he's tapped Lily Allen to star in the new Chanel handbag ad campaign. [WWD] A day in the life of Steven Alan. Factoid: he can't sketch. His cats look like goats. [Fashionista] Alber Elbaz, always good for a soundbite: "I don’t have children. I’m always pregnant, but I never had kids. Obviously I’ve never been through labor, but I think that having a collection is the closest thing to it." [Fashionologie] Michael Kors wants Spanx for men. It could do a few bodies good. The new pretty face in tow? Baptiste Giabiconi, who Lagerfled shot for this month's French Vogue. [The Cut] Up and coming Danish designer Christian Westphal will outfit Franz Ferdinand's next tour. The band can be already be seen in Westphal's designs on this month's cover of German publication Stern Magazine. [WWD] One thing not to expect from Diane von Furstenberg? Menswear. Too bad. [WWD]
Berlin police officers have been banned from wearing certain labels due to Neo-Nazi associations. Off limits are Fred Perry, Ben Sherman, ACAB, Alpha Industries, Consdaple, Lonsdale, Pit Bull, Outlaw, Troublemaker, and Thor Steinar. The labels are, understandably, not happy with the bad publicity. [WWD] The bane of the white shirt's existence is surely the yellow pit-stain left after washing. Here's how to get rid of it! Starting this Monday through March 15th, the windows of Colette will be plastic-ered with Barbie and her man, played by model Baptiste Giabiconi. Both get styled high by Lagerfeld, with Barbie in everything from a wedding gown to a swimsuit to, of course, Chanel; and Baptiste looks like KL reincarnate -- chain, gloves, sunglasses and all. If you miss the windows, the whole exhibition will be on view in the Colette gallery until the 28th. Feel free to remember fondly those days as child spent making Barbie fabulous and wishing Ken was anatomically correct. -- Seth Plattner Posted at 11:47 AM in Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBack (0) February 13, 2009Quickies: Justin Timberlake wants to bring acid wash back, Karl Lagerfeld hates the internet and more
