While fall saw lady's neck lines creeping higher and higher (hide those girls, girls), men's necklines keep getting deeper and deeper. American Apparel has already begun preparations for sellouts. [Prim and proper]
Parent-less children were in a frenzy after Tom Ford mentioned in Fantastic Man that he wanted to adopt a child by the end of 2008. Turns out he was putting the cart before the horse. He's now saying he's got no plans to do so, and, when he does, he won't let our greedy little eyes see it. Bitch. [FWD]
I'm only mentioning this because Anya is one of my favorite girls in ANTM history--and, frankly, one of the few who deserves a modeling contract. I hope to see her during Fashion Week! [The Cut]

In never ceasing battle against aging, dragon fruit has recently proving highly effective in fighting cell proliferation. Look better and smell fruitily delicious? Yes, please! [Cosmetic Design]
After his Spring 09' show Giorgio Armani gave a little zing to his fellow Italians:
"It is time to straighten ourselves out, we are too slovenly," he
said. He blamed the lack of decent dressing on a culture of "atrocious
permissiveness". Ya hear that Staten Island? Atrocious Permissiveness... [Telegraph]
Rag & Bone, who recently set their pre-fall line to sale, might be
setting a trend among the new it-labels. Tim Hamilton is following
suit by releasing their pre-fall collection exclusively at Bergdorf
Goodman, meaning you can start looking good before the runway says so. [Material Interest]
Just because Tom Ford's suits can cost $3,800 and boots a mere $10,000 (pocket change, really), don't expect the fashion saavy male to miss out on wearing the CFDA's Menswear Designer of the Year label. After the opening of his Madison avenue store in New York City, sales were reportedly well above projections. The ass, the cheekbones, the best eye in fashion, and now more continued success? What doesn't this guy have? [Reuters]
Wait, hold please. Tom Ford's luck might have just run out. Turns out a former male model was hospitalized last night in Milan after a spotlight fell from the ceiling on to his perfectly coutured head. I'm sure Tom was marginally phased, and then slightly relieved to know that one less hottie was potentially stealing his thunder. [Fashionista]
You know it's an issue when the Italians are designing American fashion. On the way from B.D. Baggies, which was recently bought by Italina conglomerates W.P. Lavori (the same folks responsible for the reintroduction of Woolrich Woolen Mills at the hands of Daiki Suzuki) is a relaxed but stylish line of button downs, tees and hoodies. Dave Mullen, who birthed Save Khaki, will helm the design under the crack of a supple Italian whip. [Material Interest]

After having penned a recent essay in British GQ about the double-standard against men and nude fashion photography, Tom Ford felt dicked over when the magazine covered the models' members in the accompanying spread he styled with text blocks. First he designs amazing clothes, then he works hard to show us the goods. Could he be any dreamier? [The Cut]
It may not be designer; It may not cost $60 a bottle; and it may just be a little too simple--but the unisex Banana Republic classic fragrance is heavenly, but, with hopes of perfecting perfection, BR will release Classic Limited Edition in limited numbers in stores and online come August. The improved fragrance promises "more texture and depth as you go from eau de toilette to eau de parfum." [Style Dash]
Whereas it was sort of fun to get out there and snoop around for coveted pieces from Rogues Gallery, now that most of their collection is available online I find it much more conducive to my lifestyle to just order their amazing polo shirts from my couch. [Material Interest]
It was hard enough to deal with the influx of American bands with pretentious and often-times erroneous names (Band of Horses, Vampire Weekend, etc.), but now we have to deal with the same trend in American fashion lines. I blame it on the hipsters. Nevertheless, newly launched menswear line Conference of Birds (what?) looks to be worth keeping your eye on with pieces described as "a chic sartorial bricolage joining the hard-edged quality of American
workwear with the polish of British tailoring...garments also
recall rugged hunting pieces as much as they do trim cosmopolitan
uniforms." A hipster probably wrote that. [Refinery29]

At last night's star-studded Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards, the gossip reached a fever-pitch for who would take home the awards. Would the handsome duo behind Proenza Schouler take home their third award? Would Thom Browne defeat Tom Ford?
However, the recent passing of Yves Saint Laurent gave the festivities a somber tone and many guests appeared in Saint Laurent's iconic Le Smoking jacket to pay their respects to the late great designer.
Without further ado, here are this years CFDA Award winners!

When it comes to the big T's of fashion, Tom and Thom (Ford and Browne respectively), we love them both for the two types of masculine man they try to dress, though TF's cheekbones and perky butt give him a slight edge. But what's the real inspiration behind their style? [NY Times]

Out's exclusive interview with Tom Ford won't be out until tomorrow, but your StyleList got the scoop on some juicy quotes that you won't see in the article.
Out: You interviewed Jeff Koons, and one of the things that impressed me was that you confessed to swinging between extremes of finding him the most intelligent artist working, and thinking he’s full of shit. A similar case can be made against fashion designers. Isn’t a lot of fashion ultimately just smoke and mirrors.
Tom Ford: I’m not saying it’s all full of shit—sometimes real change does come about through change in life, but the way that fashion is reviewed now is like art and film—it’s highly critically reviewed. Some fashion designers are artists. I’m not. I’m a commercial fashion designer and my goal is to make something beautiful that you had to have and when you had to have it you buy it—and that makes sales. It’s an artistic endeavor for me, but it’s not art. I’m too cynical to be an artist, because I don’t think I could make purely creative work that had no reason to exist except as an expression of my creativity—I wouldn’t even know how to begin.

Tom Ford isn't afraid of speaking openly about sex. So it's no surprise that the man who brought sexy back to Gucci and broke all the rules with the rise of his own fashion empire didn't shy from talking about his coming of age in debauchery-filled, Studio 54-era New York City, and how the current generation of fashion designers should know their gay history. Out's fearless leader and editor in chief, Aaron Hicklin, got the scoop in these exclusive outtakes from the November issue.
ALSO: Check out the photo that was too hot to print in the magazine! Here's what Radar has to say about it.
Out: You haven't played down your sexuality -- if anything you've accentuated it, which stands in contrast to many other designers. Tom Ford: I think the designers of my generation and younger are clearly open about their sexuality, because we benefit from everyone who came before us who had not such an easy time. We benefit from Stonewall and from the '70s. When I came to New York in the '70s, being gay became chic for a while and straight men would occasionally sleep with men because they thought it was cool, it was glamorous.
Out: Were you prepared for that when you arrived in New York? I'd never slept with a man when I arrived in New York but I grew up in a town that was very liberal -- my parents had a lot of gay friends. It was a hippy art town and fairly sophisticated for a small town in America. My grandmother and mother were always reading W and Vogue, so I was looking at those party pictures thinking that I couldn't wait to get there and get myself to one of those nightclubs.

Fashion darling Tom Ford dishes to Out's editor in chief Aaron Hicklin about the importance of dressing appropriately for your age:

Tom Ford is orchestrating a hostile takeover of the fragrance industry, one spritz at a time.
This week, he launched his newest fragrance Tom Ford for Men—yes, the one with the controversial ads depicting the bottle wedged between a dewy woman's thighs and barely covering her Brazilian bikini wax. This is only the first of many fragrances he plans to release in the coming months—including the limited edition Tom Ford Extreme due out next month.
While the ads have caught worldwide media attention, what about the fragrance itself? Based on the ads, one might think it smells like the sweaty thighs, breasts or the naughty bits of a woman, which wouldn't be hard to believe coming from Ford who once compared one of his fragrances to the sweat on a man's balls.
This is the man who told New York Magazine, "I don’t wear deodorant. I don’t! I actually love the way that human beings
smell. And I love the way my dog’s ears smell. My smell is a little
sweat, a little dog. I think a lot of us have gotten so weird about
it, especially Americans. Americans love to, like, wash away all trace
of human smell. I like human smell. It’s what makes us attracted to
each other. I mean, I’m not attracted to some laundry that I take out
after I’ve put Febreze in it. I don’t like clean. I don’t like the
smell of soap.”
Should this man be trusted to make a sexy fragrance?

Tom Ford's ad campaign (shot by Terry Richardson) for his latest fragrance, features a bottle wedged between the dewy thighs and breasts of a woman. Let's hope the image isn't indicative of his inspiration for the scent. After all, Ford did compare one of his scents to the smell of sweat on a man's balls, and New York Magazine found another one of his fragrances to smell coincidentally like cocaine. So, it wouldn't be a surprise of his latest cologne was inspired by a sweaty bosom or you know what...
This isn't Ford's first time flaunting nudity in ads. During his reign at Yves Saint Laurent, he featured full-frontal nudity of a man for the M7 fragrance ad campaign. It seems Ford is back to his old tricks. Welcome back, Tom!

Say hello to Tom Ford, quite possibly the sexiest designer of them all.
What you should know about Tom Ford: Ford was the man that brought sexy back to Gucci after being named creative director in 1994—and later creative director of Yves Saint Laurent, as well. He was known for his over-the-top glamorous style and his ability to transform numerous celebrities into smoldering sex kittens with his clothes. Who could forget his ad campaigns including the man with well-defined package in his expertly-tailored trousers or the woman flashing her pubic hair trimmed into a Gucci G?
In 2004, after some well-documented battles over creative control with the higher-ups, Tom Ford rode into the sunset like the hot, hairy-chested, gay, Texas-bred cowboy that he is at heart.
Three years later, after some dabbling in magazine publishing and ideas of film making, the hairy-chested cowboy returned to fashion little by little—beginning with reformulation and marketing work on a staid Estee Lauder perfume, then a collection of eyewear. This year, Ford exploded onto the fashion scene again with an eponymous high-end, made-to-measure and ready to wear menswear collection, sunglasses, a signature line of fragrances—immortalized with Ford's description that they "smell like the sweat on a man's balls"—and opened a flagship store in New York City.
What makes Tom Ford sexy? His bedroom eyes, five o'clock shadow, hairy chest, his often unbuttoned shirt, flirtatious personality, and impeccable style exude unmatched sex appeal—not cheesy '80s porn star.

It's rare that two of my favorite leading men are mentioned in the same gossip, but an interesting HuffPo story says that Tom Ford is trying to woo CNN hottie Anderson Cooper to be the frontman for a new fragrance that he's launching this summer. It could all be rumor and conjecture, but the boys were spotted having lunch last month at The Four Seasons, as our hot sister Popnography reported. But, HuffPo says Cooper declined because "He's made promises to people that he'll return to Iraq, the Sudan, and Indonesia, and has no time for jobs on the side [Ed: I love a man who sticks by his word!]. Ford immediately sweetened the deal by offering to send Cooper's salary to charities in Africa." Oh, that Tom is such a sweet-talker!

Sometimes it's easy to overlook the most important part of a long profile, especially when it's approximately the 184th such piece about Tom Ford to be published in as many hours.
Buried deep within the lengthy New York magazine article -- from which certain details about Ford's relative measurements were apparently excised before going to print -- is this offhanded statement about his new store's "perfumery of Estée Lauder–produced scents." Ford has said that they
are supposed to smell like the sweat of a man's balls. A woman wants a
man to smell like a man, he thinks.
Sorry for, um, missing the ball our last time around.
Thursday Styles' Critical Shopper detects a streak of schizophrenia in Tom Ford's new men's boutique.
When Horacio Silva shows up as an anonymous walk-in... "'Sir, this area is for appointments only,' said the security guard
at the base of the stairs. I told him that I wanted to arrange a time
for a fitting; he told me he did not know to whom to direct me. When I
suggested he try the store manager, he replied, 'Let me see if he has
the time for you.' You have to laugh. An unintentionally
hilarious parody of a pretentious Madison Avenue boutique, the store
reeks of arriviste Anglophilic posturing dressed up as aristocratic
gentlemanly refinement."
Some time later, Silva rings up the store and makes an appointment for himself: "The service offered me, especially by the store manager, Edward
Carbonell, who possesses a charming bedside manner and the best skin in
high-end men’s retail, was exemplary. It was Champagne and smiles all
around, but then the entire staff appeared to know I was a Times
reporter since I had made the appointment in my name. The security
guards were noticeably more low-key — Mr. Carbonell informed me that he
had told them to back off as I was apparently not the only one who had
been rubbed the wrong way — and the whole tenor of the place was
friendlier, more inviting."
